I’ve been involved in the National High School Ethics Bowl, and its state affiliates, since I was an undergraduate. My final two years of undergrad I served as a coach for the Columbia River High School Ethics Bowl team. That final year of undergrad, I assisted Alex Sager with the founding of the Oregon High School Ethics Bowl as an organizational committee member.
When joining UNC in Fall of 2015, I was especially excited to be in the same department as the Parr Center for Ethics who organized the National High School Ethics Bowl. There I served as a judge in both the North Carolina High School Ethics Bowl and the National High School Ethics Bowl multiple years in a row. For the 2018-19 academic year, I wrote and edited cases both for the regional and national case set. Cases of mine that were used include a regional case on data violence and national cases on cash bail and “desk rent”. |
For the 2018-19 academic year I was an Adams Fellow for the public humanities at UNC. The Adams Fellows focus on ideas and activities to promote public engagement with the humanities by discussing public humanities works, holding an annual symposium, and by organizing their own outreach activities.
During the 2019 National High School Ethics Bowl, I organized a session with my colleague Aliosha Barranco Lopez to get high school participants in the competition to critically reflect on the values of the Ethics Bowl and whether the NHSEB effectively reaches its goals. |
